Biography~
Matthew Summers who has been rapping since the age of ten, started off by listening to the likes of Bone Thugs n Harmony. Matthew then at the age of 15 got the name Subliminal by some kid in high school who overheard a freestyle at lunch. He asked what he goes by, then they pondered on ideas such as dizzy or rhino, but then came up with a word that only could describe his fast paced rhymes which was subliminal. His senior year in high school he soon met Adrian Smith, a rapper out of Richmond CA who took him in the studio and disected his every rhyme and taught him how to "flip" the rhyme and ride to the rhythm. Before the end of his 2003 senior year in high school at age 17, Subliminal put out an eleven track cd which was done on regular cd-r bought from the store, and sold 500 copies within a month.
With his fast rhymes Subliminal wondered to himself if there was a record for fastest rapper in the world. He looked into it, then contacted Guinness Book of World Records and submitted his work but fell short. Only to be 110 syllables short of the record in which 3 other rappers were ahead of him, Subliminal claimed himself the 4th fastest rapper in the world. At the age of 18 Subliminal's first show came in San Francisco with his idol's Bone Thugs n Harmony. From there many started calling him "Bone Clone" for sounding way too much like his favorite rapper in the group Bizzy Bone.Subliminal then moved on to Diablo Valley College, taking numerous music classes, Subliminal dropped two more cds titled Subliminal Messages and Bay Dreams. Letting the crtisicm get to him, thinking that he does rap too fast and sounds too much like a sound thats already done, Subliminal slowed his flow on the Bay Dreams mixtape and realized it sounded too much like everyone else in his area during the hyphy movement. Soon he dropped his nation wide release of Zonin and went back to what he knew with his fast paced rhymes. He Recorded Zonin out of his bedroom and his sound was decent but still not up to par.

Around that time Subliminal being a solo rapper, noticed that most rappers have a wingman or more known as a hype man, Michael Flintroy, his childhood friend from baseball loved music just as much as him, and knowing every word of Subliminal's music thought what better person to have as a hype man. As time would tell, all the critisim would not last long, as Subliminal went on to do nation wide shows in Cleveland Ohio, and being from the Bay Area, he received more hype in the midwest then he did in his own hometown. Before the age of 21 Subliminal opened for acts such as Bone Thugs n Harmony, E-40, and Too Short, While his cd Zonin was still being pushed in stores, Subliminal released Zonin 2020, which featured 7 tracks and a style which has never been done, Hyphy beats with rapid pace rhymes, and during the myspace hype at the time he ran into D'Monn an R and B singer from Utah. They teamed up to make SIp'n on some Hi-C which has been played on numerous radio staion.
During that time Subliminal would non stop message Travis O'guin the manager for Tech N9NE and Strange music, only to be told his style wasn't ready for what they had going on. Subliminal, then after completing community college released another album, which had the same name Zonin 2020 but a completely different album. Changing his name from Subliminal to Subliminal tha kid, because there were numerous rappers using that name, he decided to change it to the kid because of his long time favorite baseball player Ken Griffey Jr who was nicknamed the kid and longtime favirote basketball player Kevin Garnet who also went by the kid.
Doing many shows around that time with rappers like Method Man and Redman, Andre Nickatina, The Jacka and San Quinn with his Dj Big LIkk, Subliminal had 10,000 copies printed up of Zonin 2020. At age 23 Subliminal was approached by Jesse Esquibel a drummer for a band who went by Twat. Jesse had messaged him through Myspace, telling him that he had Subliminal's cd Zonin 2020 and couldn't believe this was someone from is own hometown. His brother Josh Esquibel was the bass player and which they had formed a band with lead guitarist Brian Turner and rhythm guitarist Nick VanArsdale. They went by Shortcuts to Fame. Not having a lead singer at the time they wanted to branch out and work with Subliminal and try a different genre of music which was to add rap behind live music. Subliminal had a show coming up with Andre Nickatina and as everyone in the band was a big fan of Nickatina decided to work on a couple songs live of Subliminal's, from there Shortcuts did there first show as a band in front of a sold out crowd. From there they moved on to more shows with Bone Thugs n Harmony and toured with Smoov-E. Subliminal tha kid and Shortcuts to Fame would go on to open for more acts which included Tech N9ne.
Only being together for a year, they ran into Josh Souza a singer at open mic night at a local bar and now is the lead singer for Shortcuts to Fame. With three different genres in one band Subliminal tha kid and Shortcuts to Fame released their first cd titled 7 soldiers.
